One of the most effective ways in SEO to elevate your search engine rankings is to use targeted keywords. In order to fully utilize targeted keywords, you must first understand what they actually are and how they should be used for maximum benefits. Targeted keyword is a word or a combination of words (also referred as “key phrase”) that are directly targeted towards your target market. By targeting your targeted keyword, you basically aim to attract visitors that are highly interested in your service and you have more chances to make that potential buyer your customer. E.g. if you are looking to sell cars in New York, you would not want to rank for the keyword “cars”, rather you would want to attract the keywords like “cars in New York”, “Cars New York”, “used cars in new York”, etc. This will ensure that the traffic you get through these searches is highly laser targeted.
In order to be successfully implementing the strategy of using targeted keywords, you must first make sure that you know how to pick those keywords that people are looking for in Google and other search engines. Google adwords Tool is one free tool offered by Google itself that shows the related keywords being searched in that location and how many times it is being searched.
When you put in the keyword “cars in new York” in the Google, it will not only show you the number of times that keyword is being searched in USA, but it will show you 100s of other related keywords too, which will give you a lot of options to choose from for your SEO campaign.
Keep in mind that if you pick a lot of keywords for your campaign and aim to rank high on all of them, you will have a very difficult time in ranking for all of them. It will require a lot of time and man power to accomplish something; hence it is highly advisable to go for 10-20 keywords per campaign and work on them till you start seeing some results.
Once you have selected your targeted keywords from Google Keyword Tools, you have to filter out the keywords that look really hard to rank for and may take up to months or even years to gain rankings. E.g. if you work on a website that offer injury lawyer services, than you should not try to rank for a generic term like “personal injury lawyer”, because it can take up to months till you can actually get some rankings for this keyword and until than you will see absolutely no traffic to your website.
Keep in mind it extremely important to have a perfect combination of keywords for your campaign. Otherwise you might end up losing a lot of money and time if you opt for wrong keywords.
